All About Tip Tools Edition (7/3/12)

Howdy PoolDawgians!

A couple weeks ago I talked a bit about the importance of using a quality pool cue tip.  Well, this week we're going to talk about how to take care of that tip that I'm sure you ran out and purchased seconds after reading my email.

There are lots of great tools that we sell, but since I only have room to talk about a few, we'll go with the ones that our loyal PoolDawgians feel are the best tools.  That said, you can check out all the tip tools we carry as well (there's quite a few of 'em).  As for this week's learning and stuff, the always entertaining Jennifer Barretta will be discussing some of the differences between thinking like an amateur and thinking like a pro when it comes to playing pool.  As always, great stuff and totally worth the read.  Ok, time to touch gloves and get it on!

The Bowtie 3-in-1 Tip Tool

As multi-use tip tools go, this has got to be one of the most popular tools we sell.  In fact, it's probably the most popular tool we sell even when you include the specialty tools.  Some of the multi-use tools suffer from the "jack of all trades, master of none" syndrome, but this one definitely does not.  It aerates, it shapes and it scuffs and does an excellent job with all three tasks.

Kamui Gator Grip Tip Tool

One of the things I really dig about Kamui is the fact that they're really into innovating when it comes to the billiards business.  Their Gator Grip tool is just another example of this.  Instead of puncturing the leather in your tip. the Gator Grip gently scuffs, taking care to retain the integrity of your tip.  Definitely check out the video we have posted on the product page, as it does a much better job demonstrating the tool than I do.  I should also note that the ebony version of the tool is more expensive because apparently ebony wood prices are much higher than boxwood.

The Ultimate Tip Tool

There are a ton of multi-use tip tools out there, but the original Ultimate Tip Tool is still considered one of the best.  With the Ultimate, you get a nickel shaper, a dime shaper, a tip tapper, a burnisher and an edger (all of which work quite well).  There are a lot of imitators and knock-offs of the Ultimate Tip Tool out there, but rest assured that when you're buying from PoolDawg, you're getting the genuine article.

The Cue Shark P.U.P

There's a lot to like about this tool.  It does a really nice job shaping, scuffing and burnishing for sure, but one of the best features of the tool is the fact that it lasts and lasts.  The material that they use is this abrasive silicon carbide mixed with an epoxy that just doesn't wear out.  Plus it comes in all the colors of the rainbow (well not really, but it is available in black, blue, gold and red).

Jennifer Barretta - How To Think Like A Pro

If you've read any of my previous articles you'll quickly realize that I'm a big believer in the power of positive thinking at the table. No one said it better than Winston Churchill when he said, “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

I firmly believe that being an optimist at the table is not only a way to turn a bad set good, but it's the quickest way to improve your game, even if you don't learn one new thing ...keep reading
