Banking off the Center Diamond

Dominic "The Drill Instructor" Esposito

Many times a ball is frozen on the rail and you know it has to be banked, but you're not sure how to shoot it. Here's how.

Bank Shot Drill 1: From the Center Diamond Back.

Here's a common bank that can be made in the corner or the side pocket. While I can tell you to use a Quarter ball hit and with a medium stroke, the real key is also developing a feel for the shot. Shoot it 100 times and you'll see just what I mean. In no time it will seem like the ball has eyes of it's own.

Bank Shot Drill 2:

When you can't bring it back to the corner or the side pocket that is next to you, you may consider a two rail Z shot in the opposite corner or side pocket. Again, the real key is developing a feel for the shot. Shoot this 100 times each and again, you'll see just what I mean. Banking is always best developed through a lot of repetition; but what isn't?

This drill and many others can be found in the Pro Skill Drills Book and DVD series endorsed by 8 time World Champion Nick Varner.
