Lovey Dovey Edition (1/24/12)

Howdy PoolDawgians

I've always found it interesting that Valentine's Day falls in February.  In the dead of winter.  It seems like it should be a spring holiday.  It's got birds, it's got bees.  It's got flying babies firing arrows at people.  This is not the imagery one thinks of during a February blizzard.  On the up side though, it gives me a topic for this week's email, so hooray Valentine's Day!

As for what we're pitching this week, like most guys, I'm not very creative when it comes to Valentine's day.  As a result, you're getting pink stuff and roses.  This week's article from Samm Diep on the other hand is quite creative (and even sticks to the lovey dovey theme), but you'll have to scroll past some supercool pool cues to get to her opus on L.O.V.E.:

Outlaw OL30 Red Roses Limited Edition

I love the folks at Outlaw.  They make my job so easy.  Every year they seem to come out with a limited edition themed cue.  The past couple years it was St. Patrick's Day themed, but this year it's all about the ladies.

This cue (limited to a production total of 150) features some solid maple painted cherry red with a whole slew barbs and roses.  As with all Outlaw cues, it features a leather wrap, layered tip and a nice, solid hit.

Stealth STH02 Pink Flames Cue

Call me a pyro, but flames are pretty hot (har, har, har).  If you know someone that's into flames and likes pink, this is totally the way to go (we also have it in purple, blue, silver and traditional if pink isn't floating your boat).

As with all Stealth cues, the key feature here is the handle.  Instead of a traditional wrap, Stealth created the Dooley handle, which is like gripping a steering wheel.  It may seem crazy, but you will likely notice a serious reduction in grip slip.

Athena ATH29 Pool Cue

When it comes to Valentines Day, choosing one Athena is always tough.  They're all really nice, but since we're theming pink this week, I decided to go with the ATH29.  It has really cool pink and zebra pattern points with matching pink pearled rings.

In addition to getting a cue that is very hip and stylish (this is what Alexis and Mariya tell me), you also get a cue that's made specifically for women.  Slightly shorter at 57.5", slightly thinner at 12.5mm and it comes with a 10" screw in extension.  If you don't like this one, check out the rest of the Athena line.

Scorpion GRP06 Sport Grip Cue

Is it just me, or are the new sport grips completely super awesome?  Don't get me wrong, I like Irish linen, but the sport grip just feels so right.  Plus, it's really easy to clean and doesn't retain bar smell after league night.

As for the cue itself, pink, black and white with the standard Scorpion shaft which features a fiberglass coating to protect from dings and warpage.

Samm Vidal (Diep) - L.O.V.E. (Four Simple Tips for Improvement)

With V-Day just around the corner, I’m turning L-O-V-E into a four-letter word that will help bring the romance back into your pool game.  L.O.V.E. (Laughter, Observation, Visualization, and Experience).

During the heat of competition, and even just in day to day life, it’s easy to forget to enjoy the moment and laugh at ourselves. World Champion Efren “The Magician” Reyes, one of my favorite players and arguably one of the best players in the world, has an attitude at the table that we could all learn from... Keep Reading
